The average lifespan of a well-crafted bespoke suit is between 8 – 12 years. And here's the good news – this isn't just a guesstimate.

With a bespoke suit, you can choose your preferred lining, the style of your jacket and trouser, the color of your buttons, and much more. However, I would like to emphasize more on the lifespan difference between the two kinds of suits. The average lifespan of a good bespoke suit should last for 5 – 10 years.

Though the lifespan of a suit varies according to how well it's made and how often it's worn, with proper care a quality suit can generally last for years or even decades. Treat your suit well, and it could last so long it might even go out of style before you need a new one.

Bespoke suits can have a large price range - from thousands of dollars to tens of thousands of dollars, and beyond. On average though, a bespoke suit costs between $3,000 and $5,000. Ultimately, it all comes down to the details chosen by the customer.

The price range for bespoke suits from Savile Row typically starts at around $3,500 and can go up to $10,000 or more.

Since suits are an expensive investment, the general rule on adding a new suit to your wardrobe or retiring an old one depends on how often and gently you wear it. On an average, if you wear a suit to work regularly, then consider updating your wardrobe every three years.

The world's most expensive suit, sold at a charity auction in 2017, went for $3.2 million. The Kiton K-50 suit can cost up to $60,000. The William Fioravanti suit takes up to 6 months to create and cost $22,000. The Desmond Merrion Supreme Bespoke Suit can cost up to $47,500.

The premium suit: $1,001 and above

In a suit over $1,000, you can expect luxury fabrics, such as Holland & Sherry, handwoven Harris Tweed, Loro Piana, Lanificio Cerruti or Zegna. These often come in impressively high thread counts that sometimes exceed the 200s.

If you wear a suit or blazer regularly for work, then you'll probably need to get a new one every one to two years. But if you only wear a suit or blazer occasionally, you could probably get by with just one or two new ones every five years. It also depends on how well you take care of your clothing.

Properly maintained wool suits can last up to 30 years. It's moisture-resistant. Wool has a fat in it called “lanolin,” which is water-repellant. While we don't recommend wearing a wool suit intentionally in the rain, it's still difficult to soak.

You can wear a suit as many times as you want, so long that it is still in good condition and fits well. A good tip is to mix and match your suits so you can get more wear out of them, as well as creating a completely different look each time.
