Sotheby's detailed that this particular Macallan 1926 single malt, aged in sherry casks for six decades, is an incredibly rare and highly sought-after bottle globally. Bottled in 1986, only 40 bottles of this edition were produced, marking it as the oldest Macallan vintage ever created. Interestingly, these 40 bottles were not available for purchase; instead, some were exclusively offered to The Macallan's top clients. Whenever these bottles have appeared in auctions, they have consistently achieved extraordinary results. The auction record was previously broken three times across 2018 and 2019, each time with different variations of The Macallan 1926.

Sotheby’s Global Head of Whisky, Jonny Fowle, expressed his sentiments on Instagram, stating, "This new record result for The Macallan Adami feels all the more emotional for me, having worked directly with the consignor and distillery to recondition, nose and authenticate this bottle, then finish this journey on the rostrum fielding bids in the room and on the phone. Bringing down the hammer for a new whisky world record is a feeling I’ll never forget.”
