for 45 years and was a member of the United Steel Workers Local 0692 He enjoyed working in the yard and around his home He loved all sports especially golf and river running But most of an he loved his family to whom he was totally devoted His special wit and wonderful sense of humor will be missed He was humble loving and kind He was a gentleman Active member of the IDS Church having served in in Mountain View Wyoming to Joseph and Selma A Carpenter He married Karin Stringer on February 23 196Tin the Salt Lake LDS 100 Temple Gary dedicated his life to emulating the example of the Savior and serving his fellowman He held numerous church positions including stoke president councilor in a stake presidency high councilman and bishop He served an LDS mission in Sweden from 1963 to 1966 Gary Touched the lives of everyone with whom he associated he was always helping those in need Gary quietly went about performing acts of kindness and compassion His happiest moments as stake president were visiting in the homes of the people he so dearly loved Throughout his treatment for lymphoma cancer he was more concerned for others and their welfare than his own He loved his wife and family dearly and deeply cared for the people of the Clearfield Utah North Stake Gary worked at Hill Air Force Base for 27 years most recently as a computer programmeranalyst He enjoyed his work and loved by his family on Monday October 24 1994 -111r-- He hmd suffered a stroke and had remained long enough for the blessing of his 61st great-gran A child He was a loving and lotirrN-7 devoted father grand- father and great-grand- -4 father to 81 descen- dants of his family He 1 lived by the creed -When ye are in the ser- 4 seivei vice of your fellow be- hat ye are only the service of your God Rulon was an attorney prominent civic and church worker patriotic citizen talented musician and patron of the Ms He was born January 2 1902 In Spanish Fork Utah a son of John and Ellenor Rowe Morgan He lost his father in the influenza epidemlb of 1918 when he was only 16 years old He took on the responsibility for the care of both his mother and his deaf brother Grant from that time until they both died many years later He attended Sparlsh Fork High School: graduated from Brigham Young University and-the University of Utah law School He did post graduate work at Stanford University and received his Juris Doctorate Degree Rulon married Fern Roberts of Afton Wyoming In 1927 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple He earned his way through law school at the University of Utah playing The trumpet in several noted orchestras and dance bands in the 'roaring hventies' After graduating from law school he practiced law in Provo with his uncle Judge Andrew Morgan Rulon and Fern became the parents of two children Jayanne Morgan (Dean) Pane and Dr Alan Roberts (Jeanene) Morgan bo of Provo Rulon is survived by his son and daughter 18 grandchildren and 61 great-grandchildren His wife Fern preceded him in death in 1987 He was cared for at home for the past three yeas by a loving granddaughter Julie Payne and her husband Benjamin Service was the theme of his life: to church community his country and his family He was a devoted member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving as stake mission president for four years Sunday School president of several wards and other priesthood and service callings Rulon assisted 14 of his grandchildren in serving missions He received the Silver Beaver Award from the Boy scouts of America for many years service to that organization In 1988 he was awarded the Community Service Award from the City of Provo as one of its outstanding citizens The Utah State Bar Association honored him for 62 active years service in the legal profession His life spanned on Incredible century form horse and buggy to space travel Rulon served his country in the National Guard on many boards and delegations during World War IL Most notable however was his service as president of the National Society of the Sons of the Utah Pioneers where he was instrumental in promoting the Pioneer Museum of Provo the commemoration of the Mormon Battalion activities in California and 23 years service to Sons of Daughters of the Utah Pioneers of Provo He served as president of many civic organizations including the Lions Club Timpanogos Knife and Fort Ckils Central Utah Bar Msociation and chairman of the Utah County Republican Committee He received citations and honors from various presidents of the United States for service to the American Red Cross Utah State Board of Civil Defense US Treasury Dept and Selective Service He served on several cultural arts boards including Provo City Art Board and made marry contributions of beautiful poinfings to the Brigham young University and the Provo and UtahPioneer Museums He was devoted to the preservation of our pioneer heritage and assisted his wife Fern in writing and publishing two large volumes of family history for her family plus his own autobiography Funeral services will be Saturday October 29 1994 at 10 am to be held at the Oak Hills First Ward at 1038 North 1200 East Provo Friends may visit on Friday from 6 to 8 pm and again before the funeral services from 8:30 am to 9:30 am both at the church interment will be at the Provo City Cemetery under the direction of Berg Mortuary of
