JUNE 12 1953 OUNDED 1840 Smither and Son Edwin Ray Drown In Elmburg Lake Yesterday Mother Killed our In amily Hurt When Car Hits Parked Truck Accident Occurred At 8th And Main At Early Hour Tuesday Morning One person was killed and four others badly hurt Tuesday morning at 4:45 when their car a 1950 ord crashed into a 1949 White oil transport parked on Main Street near the comer of Eighth Mrs Ruth Wobus 37 Norfolk Va suffered a fractured skull ac cording to Coroner Dr A Wahl Iler death followed about a half hour after the wreck at the King's Daughters Hospital Her husband Herman Wobus 38 suffered the fracture of both legs and cuts about the face their cnildren Richard five and a half years suffered head injuries Johnny age 2 cuts and bruises about tire head and Greg 3 8 mas a broken leg All of the tred persons are at the King's Daughter Hospital for treatment Patrolman Thomas Moffett be lieved that Mrs Wobus who was driving may have fallen asleep at the wheel The family was en route to St Charles Mo to visit the fam ily of Mr Wobus Mr anil Mrs Theodore Wobus when the acci dent occurred Chief Roy Jones said Allen Bolin rankfort who was driving behind the Wobus car saw the ac cident Aocording to reports the Wobus car which was headed west started bearing diagonally across the other traffic lane before hit ting the truck parked on the oppo site side of the street in front of the office of Dr Nash The driver of the truck George Haw kins Route 2 Anchorage had gone into a nearby garage The body of Mrs Wobus was taken to the Hall Taylor uneral Horne to await the of Mr and was reported that one driver struck at least three different cars on Wash iugton Street At 12:30 Tuesday morning a car in which Juline and Edgar Stivers were riding collided with a 1951 ord truck belonging to Jolui Booth and parked on Washington Street between Eighth and Ninth The driver of the car a 1948 ord bearing a Henry County license stated his brakes locked Both the car and truck were badly dam aged If the new street US 60 alter nate is not patrolled and the speed ing is not stopped not only animals but some person is going to be killed or badly hurt In several in stances cars have been going so fast that when they come to the corners the cars are driven on two wheels and the screaming of brakes at each intersection is terrifying Something must be done to stop such wreck less Storm Visits Bagdad Area Large Barn Damaged Trees Blown Down Storm clouds that rolled and played across the entire sky pre faced a real storm in the north east ern section of the county Wednes day morning about 11 The large feed bam on the farm of Marvin Black near Bagdad was raised at least one and one half inches off the foundation tall dock was blown berteath it and the barn was set back years before entering the hardware business here forty years ago He had at one time been a salesman for wholesale hardware firms in Pa ducah and St Louis A graduate of the high school in Trigg County he attended night classes in Cincinnati and Louisville Mr Wadlington studied civil en gineering early in life and laid out the plans for streets of a town on the Kentucky Tennessee border He was a Elsewhere In This Week's Sentinel The Shelby Rural Electric Co operative Corporation Shelbyville announced this week their partici pation in a program sponsored by the Kentucky Rural Electric Co operatives of Kentucky to doublethemse of electricity in the cooper ative service areas of Kentucky dur ing the 1953 1954 period Upon the realization of the need for expansion of the use of electricity on the farm and in the farm home the Ken tucky Plan as it has been named was created so that the rural elec? trie co op members may derive the full benefits from electricity for bet ter living and more farm produc tion This increased use of elec tricity will help develop a strong agricultural element in Kentucky and will have a corresponding bene ficial effect on the economic and social welfare on the state as a whole Elsewhere in this Issue there is a ad sponsored by the Shelby RECC announcing a free electric range and water heater installation program available to all its mem bers The Shelby Co Op points out1 that this installation program is the initial phase of its support of the Kentucky Plan and is being under taken to encourage its members in the fullest practical of our TV fans and others who were not fans congregated about their ownor television sets Wed nesday evening at 7 when several appeals for help were heard from our group of orphan children who have
