This 2022 S Class replaced my 2017 S Class. I am overwhelmed by the improvement between the two cars. Everything is better. The ride quality, the materials, the overall feel of quality, the audio system, the interior silence, even the fuel consumption. My car is highly optioned, but the base car is also an excellent choice. Once you own an S Class, the only other car you buy is another S Class. This car is truly exceptional.

  • A few issues

I'm a first time MB owner. The car has some outstanding features like rear axle steering, suspension that compensates for curves, interior comfort, etc. However, I have experienced several issues that shouldn't have happened.First, in cold weather (I took delivery on Oct 31 in Michigan), the caliper pads adhere to the rotors. When one puts the car in reverse for the first time each day, there is a loud bang when the pads break loose from the rotors. If you take the emergency brake off when parking the night before, the problem doesn't present itself, but you shouldn't have to have a work around for something this simple. The dealer says the vehicle is operating as designed.Second, also in cold weather, the initial light throttle 2-3 upshift is extended to the point that it doesn't occur until 4500 RPM in some cases unless you force a shift by letting up on the accelerator. After the transmission gets to operating temperature, the problem disappears (although the shifts aren't timed very well, engine flare is apparent during shifts regardless of temperature). I don't know, and the dealer can't tell me, if it's a MB built transmission or a ZF. Again, the dealer tells me this is normal, it's not. I ran transmission plants for 20 years and never saw this issue. This is a design defect. The sensors that warn the driver of obstacles may be on the edge of being too sensitive. In a few cases, a warning was issued when there was no apparent reason.Besides these issues, the car is an outstanding vehicle. It's a joy to take trips in because of seat comfort, environmental control, and the semi-autonomous driving on expressways.
