Easy Three Ingredient Peanut Butter Dog Treats - Dalmatian DIY (1)

These easy three ingredient peanut butter dog treats are quick, simple, and doggone delicious. They smell pretty fab to us humans, too! Ready to make your own super simple homemade dog treats? Check out this easy homemade peanut butter dog treat recipe and details.

This recipe was one of the earliest shared here on the blog. Although baking with brown rice flour is my go-to method for making most baked dog treats (I like playing with shapes), this recipe is one of our reader favourites. In the years since this little post was first shared on our blog, many of you have messaged, comments, and even shared photos of you own baking of these treats. We never imagined when we started the Dalmatian DIY blog that it would touch so many people and pets, both near and far. Woofs to our furfriends all over the world.

Simply Delicious

This is a very easy recipe for anyone looking for a special homemade dog treat idea. It’s quick, simple, and hard to mess up. It’s a great one for cooking with children to make a special treat for their best furry friend. They can even taste test the treats together after baking. They do smell really good. Haha! The cooling rack was well guarded at our place by handsome (albeit slightly drooly) spotted sous-chefs. These soft cookie style dog treats are doggone delicious to the pups, but not so yummy to us humans who are used to sweeter (naughtier) cookies.

Homemade Peanut Butter Dog Treats with Coconut Flour

These simple soft homemade dog treats combine the delicious scents and flavours of peanut butter and coconut in an easy three ingredient recipe. When I bake with coconut flour, I usually hand-form my treats, like these. This isn’t a roll-and-cut dog treat dough. Although it’s a nutritious flour, I find coconut flour tricky for shapes and prefer using brown rice flour doughs for those types of treats instead. If you’re looking for a roll and cut peanut butter dog treat dough, check out our smooth roll and cut peanut butter dog treat recipe.

Treat Ingredients:

  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 cup smooth peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup coconut flour

Making the Treats:

  • Preheat your oven to 180C (or local equivalent) and gather together your baking ingredients and materials.
  • Combine all of the ingredients in a mixing bowl. Mix thoroughly to form a cohesive dough. Doesn’t feel quite right? Quantities and consistency can vary a little depending on your ingredients. You can adjust the dough with a little extra flour or water, if needed.
  • Hand roll into small bite-sized balls, place on a prepared baking sheet, and flatten gently. Use a fork for flattening if you want a classic peanut butter cookie style cross-hatched top. Simply press the tines gently twice, with the second press perpendicular to the first. Easy!
  • Bake for approximately 10-15 minutes. Cooking time will vary with shape/size, so keep an eye on the oven.
  • Cool before serving and storage.

Baked Biscuit Dog Treat Making Tips and Tricks

  • Baked treats can be broken for smaller dogs, or made bigger/smaller. Keep an eye on your time and temperature. The smaller the treat, the shorter the baking time.
  • We don’t include yield with our treat recipes because it is very dependent on what the maker decides for treat shape, size, and thickness when they’re baking. We like to bake small batch treats, but you can multiply our recipes if you’d like to bulk bake for freezing or to share with furfriends. Homemade treats are best consumed fresh within a couple of days of baking or frozen for longer storage. See our post on baked dog treat shelf life and storagefor more info and tips.

Recipe and Ingredient Tips and Tricks

  • When using ingredients like peanut butter, take care to avoid artificial sweeteners, especially xylitol, which is extremely dangerous for dogs. Xylitol may also be labelled as sweetener code 967. I use a no-added salt or sugar smooth peanut butter.
  • Coconut flour gluten-free / grain-free and for a flour it’s relatively high in fibre, high in protein, and low-GI. You can experiment with substitutes flours, but you will need to adjust the recipe substantially as coconut flour is very absorbent. Check out our post on homemade dog treat ingredients for flour information or see our peanut butter dog treat recipes for other ideas.
  • This dough isn’t suitable for rolling and cutting into shapes, but we have lots of other recipes in our archives if that’s what you have in mind. Our smooth roll-and-cut peanut butter dog treats are an easy furfamily favourite.

Hungry for more tasty treats? There are all sorts of homemade dog treat ideas in our archives. You can use the categories and tags to explore other recipes that might be of interest or use our internal search to find something specific. Remember, treats (bought or homemade) are for spoiling your pup in moderation. We share ideas from treats that we’ve made ourselves for our pets, but different animals have different preferences (likes/dislikes), just like people. Some pets may have special dietary requirements and/or food allergies/intolerances. If you are ever in doubt or have questions about what’s suitable for your pet, have a chat with your trusted vet.
